Teaching, workshop facilitation and education work
Katy is a dedicated and experienced teacher, whose passion is to help others unlock their full creative potential. As well as teaching individuals, she has facilitated workshops for choirs across the country, helping participants to feel more confident and get more from their singing. All workshops are tailored to suit the individual needs of the group. Previous workshops have been designed to cover:
- exploring posture and breathing
- improving diction whilst maintaining the quality of the sound
- exploring how mental & physical wellbeing affects singing
- improving awareness and technique by thinking holistically, incorporating the body-intelligence and the mind-intelligence
- Performance Psychology – how to be your best under pressure
- Different approaches to learning and practise – how to find what works best for you!
Katy has also worked on schools and family focussed projects with Oxford Song as well as outreach projects for the Musicians’ Company with the Merton Dementia Hub. As Oxford Song Young Artists, Katy and her duo partner Rustam Khanmurzin were part of the team delivering the 2022 Schools Programme. Working with the inimitable composer and animateur John Webb, they facilitated weekly workshops in St. Frideswide Primary School, Oxford. Each class composed their own song, and perform them as a complete song cycle in the Sheldonian Theatre. Here is a video of the performance (including Katy dressed as a mouse, naturally). Katy and Rustam also curated and delivered the 2022 Oxford Song Cushion Concerts. Halloween themed, these 30-40 minute sessions included fun warm up games, music and movement with songs by Rebecca Clarke, Schubert & Saint-Saens, and lots of exploration and story-telling. As Musicians’ Company Young Artists (and award holders) Katy and Rustam collaborated with the Merton Dementia Hub to bring songs and stories to their residents.
